Euroleon nostras (Fourcro, 1785)
Distribution
British and Irish distribution of Euroleon nostras (Fourcroy, 1785) based on records held by the National Biodiversity Network.
Known only from a few coastal localities in southern England, Euroleon nostras (Fourcro, 1785) is an unmistakeable member of the Neuroptera. Found on heathland and scrub from June to September, it is the largest of the British and Irish Neuropterida fauna reaching 40mm. The larvae live in pits in sandy soil and feed on ants and other insects that fall in – hence the common name of Ant Lion.
