Raphidioptera

Whilst the total world fauna is great, only 4 species of Raphidioptera are found in Britain and Ireland, comprising 1 family (Raphidiidae) and 4 genera (Atlantoraphidia, Phaeostigma, Subilla, Xanthostigma). In order to separate the 4 species, wing venation needs to be studied which usually entails killing and pinning of the insect.
